The Kore Dance Studio
ROLE:
Logo Design
Founded by Alexander Chung — The Kore Dance Studio is a home for professional groups, competitive teams, and dance workshops in the Edmonton area.
The Kore places strong values on a positive and encouraging class environment where both dedicated and beginner dancers can come to learn and make friends, while also receiving quality and professional training. The Kore Dance Studio is a community of hard work, love, and support.
I received the honour of designing a new logo design for the dance studio I call my second home. Over the years, I’ve seen the studio produce and develop such fine people - not just dancers but human beings. The mission was to translate the stories and the evolution I have witnessed from the very beginning into a mark of family, growth and love.
People come and go but the memories and the lessons they leave behind are what make life beautiful. The roads symbolize just that. The bold lines inside the logo are supposed to be the roads that represent our journeys and the stories we all carry. The abstract patterns of roads and highways at an aerial view have similarities to zebra patterns. So it happens that zebras in the animal kingdom represent community, freedom, protection, and family.
Dance is an escape for many, it is a way to depart ourselves from reality and be free. Zebras are a symbol of the free and wild spirit that lives in everyone. Its unique black and white stripes resemble our very own fingerprints (our individualism). The negative space in the logo is the hardwood floors in the studio - a reminder of the hours of hard work and the bond that is created within this space. The inspiration behind the diamond border is from the quote, “Your eyes are the window to your soul” referring to the core of a person.
To bring it all together, the different layers form a letter “K” in the middle which symbolizes the moment when people cross paths.
